Description:
Dont forget the term U/V when choosing your U/V lamp.
Ultraviolet (U/V) tracers are specifically formulated to fluoresce under U/V light. This is the origin of the common product names for the two main items using this technology: U/V tracer and U/V lamps.
As shown in the reference chart, true U/V light is invisible to the human eye, while the nearest visible light colors are violet and blue. The total intensity of U/V light decreases progressively as it shifts from invisible U/V to violet, then blue, and so on. One must be careful not to mistake a lamp emitting high-intensity visible blue light as better than one that is properly tuned to emit true invisible U/V light.
Thats why BLUE is NOT necessarily okay
A properly tuned U/V lamp should predominantly emit invisible U/V wavelengths, with only a trace of visible violet or blue light. The small amount of visible light helps guide the users eyes to the inspection area, while the invisible U/V light illuminates the tracer leak.
Lamps emitting a large amount of visible blue light have been widely marketed as more powerful and effective due to the easily seen brightness. However, true U/V tracers need actual invisible U/V rays to become fluorescent.
Therefore, high-output blue lamps require special anti-blue glasses to filter the blue hue during inspection. Otherwise, the high-intensity light will obscure the tracer or leak fluorescence.
